Flood Effects

The flood has been a great problem for everyone in Thailand for the past month. It didn’t cause me to relocate. It flooded here for a week and then it was over. They did however find an alligator on the main roads somewhere near Saraburi (where I live). I live quite far from Bangkok. It usually takes me around one and half hours to get to there. Since all the roads were blocked if I wanted to go to Bangkok or anywhere for that matter, it would take me around 4 hours. I was practically stuck all four weeks at home with nowhere to go and horrible Internet. Almost everyday for the past two weeks the water would go off for a few hours. It became really annoying.

These floods have affected Thailand’s economy as well as the people’s lives. The farm fields have flooded and farmers cant grow crops, therefore the is less trade of rice. This would increase the price of rice because the supply is low and the demand is high. The tourism companies have lost loads of money since most of the tourist spots are flooded and no one wants to visit a company at such a bad time. My parents have been talking about how health problems are going to start. My father says that the worst part of the floods is when it is over and its extremely dirty everywhere. That is going to cause some very big health issues. I think that is our biggest concern.

Thousands of people have been dislocated from their homes. Many people’s houses are flooded and belongings are wet. I have been wondering how I can offer my help to the flood victims. The best I can come up with is to donate a lot of food, mineral water, and raincoats. For a week when it was flooded near my house I remember regretting not having rain boots. I think those are very important too. You have no idea what might be in the water and your feet should definitely be protected incase some animal comes and bites you. My moral compass is telling me to go help the groups helping out the flood victims. I will try in anyway possible to help the people for the floods. I will try to support the people of “Wipe the tide”.
